ORGANIZATIONAL OVERVIEW
Lumen Field is a bucket list destination for sports and entertainment fans around the world. Lumen Field, which opened in 2002, is home to three professional sports teams – the NFL’s Seattle Seahawks, the MLS’ Seattle Sounders FC and the NWSL’s Seattle Reign FC. Lumen Field and the Lumen Field Event Center host more than 300 event days per year and attract more than 2.4 million attendees annually. The venue has hosted many premier concerts and events and will welcome the world as a FIFA World Cup 2026 host city.
SUMMARY
The Environmental Health and Safety Compliance Manager supports the Legal Department in managing the operational, regulatory compliance and risk management objectives of Lumen Field and Event Center and associated workplaces.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Environmental Health and Safety Manager is responsible for overseeing a comprehensive safety program at Lumen Field and Event Center including WAMU Theater as well as the Virginia Mason Athletic Center. This position requires a highly-organized, detail-oriented and proactive individual who can effectively handle a wide range of responsibilities essential to the health and safety of employees, vendors and guests. The ideal candidate must possess excellent communication, multitasking and problem-solving skills, along with a strong sense of confidentiality and professionalism. The Environmental Health and Safety Manager will ensure compliance with all federal, state and local laws and regulations. This position will require, at times, working events that occur during evenings, weekends and holidays.
Specific Responsibilities including the following (other duties may be assigned):
  • Responsibilities related to ensuring a safe and healthy working environment for employees and third parties:
    • Maintain, audit and update the Accident Prevention Program (APP)
    • In concert with the HR team, develops, facilitates and updates, as needed, safety training(s) for Lumen Field, Lumen Field Event Center, WAMU Theater and VMAC employees as are appropriate or required to improve or eliminate unsafe acts and/or work conditions and to maintain compliance with regulatory requirements
    • Conduct and document monthly site safety walks including developing mitigation plans
    • Collaborate with the Worker’s Compensation Controller to document and investigate employee injuries
    • Take lead on all investigations, interactions and corrective actions with regulatory bodies such as Washington State Labor & Industries
    • Generate a training database to coordinate, maintain and monitor safety training and certifications
    • Prepare and maintain a variety of safety correspondence, records, reports and/or other documentation
  • Responsibilities related to ensuring Vendor Management/Construction Safety:
    • Obtain and review Site Specific Safety Plans submitted by contractors and vendors for Lumen Field, Lumen Field Event Center, WAMU Theater and/or VMAC projects and events
    • Obtain and review necessary training documentation for contractors and vendors of upcoming projects and events as required
    • Conduct weekly documented site safety walks
    • Oversee hot work management and procedures as needed based on work scope
    • Address observed unsafe acts by employees, contractors and/or vendors and taking the proper steps to correct the unsafe acts
  • Responsibilities related to Regulatory Compliance:
    • Apply for and update all Hazardous Material permitting through the Seattle/Renton Fire Department
    • Coordinate annual inspections of all elevator/escalator conveyances
    • Coordinate with fire services to ensure required testing and maintenance completed including monthly inspections
  • Responsibilities related to Life Safety:
    • Work with Safety and IT Departments to update and operationalize Emergency Response Plans, Business Continuity Plans, etc.
    • Manager a program to maintain the lifesaving equipment present at venue locations including employees training and certification
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES

  • 3+ years of experience in a Safety related position or similar role
  • Proven ability to provide effective leadership and supervision to staff during critical incidents, emergencies and day-to-day operations, demonstrating a professional and diplomatic communication style
  • Ability to identify and assess safety threats and thereafter manage the identified risks and vulnerabilities
  • Demonstrated experience producing professional, detailed and accurate reports, suitable for dissemination to senior management, meeting stated deadlines
  • Proven work history and ability to work an extensive event driven schedule, including weekend, evening and holiday hours
  • Experience in a high-volume, service driven environment
  • Demonstrated ability to access, retain and protect sensitive and confidential business-related or proprietary information and situations
  • Knowledge of accounting and finance functions; experience drafting, proposing and managing budgets
  • Ability to professionally interact with guests, visitors and staff at all levels
  • Knowledge of and compliance with Federal and State OSHA regulations, including fire and safety
  • Proven experience conducting thorough investigations and documenting the results of workplace incidents
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS
  • Will, at times, be exposed to varied weather conditions                                   
  • During event days, extended periods of walking and standing are required
  • While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to use hands and fingers as well as walk long distances
  • The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms. The employee is required to stand, sit, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl
  • The employee is frequently required to lift 15 pounds
  • The visual requirements include: the ability to adjust focus, peripheral vision, and close vision. Requirements may vary depending on position

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
  • The salary range for this position is: $85,000 – $105,000. The salary range applies to the current posting. The posted salary range may vary based on key factors including, but not limited to, education, job-related knowledge, experience and skill set.
